Opening Doors for Refugee Teachers
The Department for Children, Schools and Families has provided funding through the Refugee Teachers Task Force to maximise the skills and experience of refugee teachers, and to promote their employment in schools and colleges.
This is an opportunity to put into practice the recommendations set out in the Refugee Teachers Task Force report (available to download here) over the next 3 years. The funding will be used to support a network of organisations working with refugee teachers outside London, to raise awareness with employers of this untapped resource of potential employees and to establish a London partnership that will work collaboratively in assisting refugee teachers into the education workforce.
Refugee Teachers Network
The Refugee Teachers Network (RTN) links providers of services to refugee teachers across England, with a particular aim to develop and support provision outside London. The network is a tool for pooling the expertise and capacity of local authorities, NGOs, teacher training providers and employers, in order to help refugee teachers find appropriate work placements, training courses and employment.
On 20th March 2009 the Refugee Teachers Network held a conference celebrating the successes of its 1st year. The conference brought together partners involved in the project to: share good practice on supporting refugee teachers; promote existing services; identify services to develop and to build plans for the coming year. Issues and recommendations from the day will be presented to the Refugee Teachers Task Force. To access a copy of the conference report click here. Presentations by speakers are available to download:
