Refugee Employment - Refugee Professionals
Research has shown that around 30% of refugees bring professional skills and experience to the UK and there are different organisations providing advice and support to refugees.
The Employability Forum is active in promoting the employment of refugee professionals. The DWP strategy on refugee employment 'Working to Rebuild Lives' states that refugee professionals are a key group requiring specialist help. They need support with:
- Recognition of their qualifications;
- Gaining work experience;
- English language study;
- Adapting to the specific requirements of UK professions.
The Employability Forum has worked with a number of organisations such as Refugees into Jobs, Praxis and Professional bodies (e.g. BMA, RCN, Teaching Unions, etc.) and in partnerships such as PRESTO to build on this important work.
