Refugee Employment - Refugee Engineers
Refugees in professions such as medicine have a clear, if complex and often costly, route to accreditation and recognition. However, in the engineering sector there is no such transparent route.
- Ana Rebollar, Deputy Director, Education Action International
In 2004 a handbook for refugee engineers was published by Education International with funding from the London Development Agency. Work undertaken in 2005 by the Employability Forum identified a need for providers to work more closely with employers. It is hoped that the new RAISE initiative will help as it has established a database for refugee engineers, which you can access at www.refugee-engineers.org.uk. A strategy for refugee engineers is expected for publication in 2007.
In addition, Education Action International together with Action for the Capital's Refugee Engineers has produced an Employment Resource Handbook for Refugee Engineers in London. You can download a PDF version here.
