Opening Doors for Refugee Teachers in London
04 December 2007
Employability Forum launched a 3-year Government-funded inititiative to support refugees into work in the education sector in London. The event set out our partnership framework for action, launched a campaign for employer engagement, and showcased new courses run by London Metropolitan University and the Institute of Education. Refugee Employment in Liverpool

With local partners, Employability Forum helped to organise a conference in Liverpool to explore issues around refugee employment. Delegates came from a variety of sectors, including those working in refugee organisations, JC+ and employers. Employability Forum held a conference on refugees working in education on 23 November 2006. The Refugee Teachers Task Force report was presented at the conference and is available to download here. The event was well attended, with over 70 delegates, a number of whom are refugees working in education. The conference report can be downloaded here.

Held a year after publication of the Government's policy on refugee employment and integration, this event explored the impact of the policy and next steps to improve access to sustainable employment for refugees.
A number of speakers addressed delegates including DWP minister Margaret Hodge MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary Andy Burnham MP, and Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus Lesley Strathie.
The conference was very successful with 180 delegates participating in workshops, helping to contribute to a final report.
