Refugee Employment in Manchester

The final regional event for 2005, this conference brought together key partners
to explore what needs to happen in Manchester to forge better links with Jobcentre Plus and
the voluntary sector in order to implement refugee employment strategies in the region.
Refugee Employment in London

A second regional event to discuss the implementation of Government and Jobcentre
Plus strategies at a local level. This event examined the situation in London, and how relevant
refugee and employment agencies can work together to encourage higher labour market participation
amongst refugees.

Making Migration Work – an opportunity for business leaders and senior managers from
universities, trade unions and professional bodies to consider the Government’s proposals
on managing migration including the introduction of a new points-based system.
Developing a Refugee Employment Strategy in Wales

This was a regional event to discuss refugee employment in Wales.
It built on recent DWP and Jobcentre Plus reports which stressed the importance of providing
practical help to refugee jobseekers. The event was organised with the help of the Welsh Refugee
Council, the Welsh Local Authorities Consortium for Refugees and Asylum Seekers and local Refugee
Communities.

Managing Migration – the Australian Model

This seminar at the Australian
High Commission outlined the Australian immigration ‘points’ system,
and explored whether it might be adapted to fit the ‘new’ British model. The

Open Space Event on Refugee Employment
