About Us - Background

The Employability Forum is an independent organisation that promotes the employment of refugees and the integration of migrant workers in the UK.

We act as a catalyst - working with the voluntary sector, employers and government, identifying the key issues and developing strategies for integrating refugees and migrants in the world of work.

“We are proud of our association with the Employability Forum and are delighted that it has had an impact. Asylum and immigration are complex areas of public policy and Employability has identified the important practical steps that need to be taken.”

Bharat Mehta, Clerk, City Parochial Foundation

From 2001 to its closure in 2006 we led the work of the National Refugee Integration Forum on employment and training. Employability is a co-signatory to the Government’s strategy on refugee employment, Working to Rebuild Lives with the Home Office and Department for Work and Pensions.

In 2005 Employability commissioned an independent evaluation of its work between 2003 and 2005. To read the Executive Summary please click here (Word doc). For a full copy of the report please contact Yaminee Pande.

The Employability Forum is supported by independent trusts and foundations and by the European Social Fund including EQUAL.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families supports the Opening Doors programme, which provides opportunities for refugee teachers.

The Home Office, Department for Work & Pensions, Department of Health and the Treasury’s Invest to Save Budget have provided funding for different projects and programmes.
